ABA Center International (ACI) helps adults who need our help. ACI is one of the first ABA organizations in the Netherlands, which helps adults through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our ABA specialists are professionally trained in preventing aggressive behavior and other problematic behaviors, and our ABA specialists also have experience working with adults. We treat adults who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, ADHD and other development delays.
We treat adults in the home setting, at work and in group homes. In addition, ACI provides vocational counseling, which includes on the job coaching.
In 2010, one of the founders, Lilyan W.J. Campbell, LMFT, BCBA, conducted a study on the use of ABA methods for adults. Campbell came to the conclusion that much of the research was done in the 1970s, but that hardly any research was done in the last and present centuries. She analyzed information and created a full program for ABA treatment of adults.
In ACI’s ABA treatment of adults, we focus on a variety of goals, such as:
- Reducing problem behaviors, such as aggressive behaviors, not listening, self-stimulation, safety issues
- Teaching adults to live as independently as possible, such as self-reliance; hygiene skills; performing household tasks
- Age specific skills for home, at work and in the society
- Making independent choices
- Communicating functionally
- Vocational skills: Conducting interviews, writing a resume, on the job coaching
- Parent/caregiver training in the ABA strategies.
Parents/caregivers are always involved in the ABA treatment. The more parents/caregivers are trained in ABA, the more likely the client is to develop.
